Where to see Bearded Vultures in Switzerland

The Bearded Vulture is the biggest bird in Switzerland. Its wingspan is up to 280cm, or even 290cm or 300cm depending on the information source. The Bearded Vulture is also unique for its behavior. Like other vultures, it is a scavenger, but it is the only bird in the world to feed on bones. 

In Switzerland, seeing a wild Bearded Vulture is always a privilege. There were only between 9 and 15 couples nesting in Switzerland in 2016. Also, because its territory is up to 500 square kilometers, it is quite hard to spot even though you go to the right place. Today, 3 Swiss cantons have Bearded Vultures:

• Vaud.

• Valais.

• Graubünden.
