Iceland Photo Tour : the Arctic Fox
During our wildlife photography tour in Iceland in 2020, we experienced magical encounters with the Arctic Fox. A fascinating animal. During our trip, at least 10 Arctic foxes crossed our path. Our participants were thrilled. These memories are lasting.
Every day, we had the privilege of having one or more meetings. Here is a chronological summary in pictures of these timeless moments:
Our first encounter with a wild Arctic fox. While we were at our base camp by the beach, an arctic fox comes forward. We could easily tell he was looking for food. Along the water's edge, Arctic Foxes find dead fish, crustaceans, etc.
After having explored the whole beach, this magnificent Arctic Fox sets out to explore the lands in the bay where we are. Our presence does not bother him at all, and sometimes he passes near us running. Magical.
As this incredible encounter drags on, we stay as still as possible and the Arctic Fox ends up showing the tip of its muzzle right in front of us.
He walks past the camp and offers our participants a moment of eternity.
A dazzling first encounter! We didn't know it yet, but this meeting was going to be the first in a long series, with a breathtaking diversity of behaviors, environments and lights.
After these first 2 days, everyone was overwhelmed by the intensity of these encounters with the Icelandic Arctic Foxes. The following days brought just as many exceptional moments. Sometimes curious, sometimes indifferent, sometimes more fierce, the Arctic Foxes amazed us.
That day, this Arctic fox came by the beach and left where it came from.
Later in the day, he returns and offers a moment of anthology to one of our participants, before the amazed eyes of the rest of the group.
And all of this continued over the next few days.
This lovely couple gave us some great scenes in this rocky environment by the water.
A few hundred meters further, we discover another Arctic fox on the heights.
And here are some more pictures of our last encounters with the Arctic Foxes during this ethical wildlife photo tour in Iceland.
Traveling to Iceland at the end of June is ideal for all levels: the light is fantastic, the sun hardly sets or sets, the Arctic Foxes are very active, and with a bit of luck it is possible to see the fox cubs. The Arctic Fox is the wild symbol of this region, but we also have some extraordinary moments with mythical birds like the Atlantic Puffin.
Next year we are leaving for a new edition of our “Arctic Foxes & Birds in Iceland Westfjords” photo trip. Always in a very small group and guided by one of our photographic guides accompanied by a local guide. Will you be with us?
