Birds of Lake Neuchâtel / Private Excursion with Florian

I meet our participant at 8am at the entrance of the ASPO Nature Center located in Cudrefin. We spend the first hour of this half-day trip dedicated to the birds of Lake Neuchâtel along the canal, where I give several tips on photo technique to Florian who was new to wildlife photography. We practiced manually managing the exposure on Mute Swans, in order to obtain pictures of the bird lit with a "black" background.

At around 9 am, we went to check the first hide of the ASPO Nature Center, located by a pond. After a few minutes, the first Common Kingfisher landed on a perch about ten meters from the lookout. Magic! We have also spotted Eurasian Curlews, Little Ringed Plover, Little Grebes and many other birds.

We then headed for the hides of the small pond, where we observed Common Kingfishers non stop. It was a great opportunity to give some advice on framing, depth of field and sharpening techniques in general.

We then left for a good picnic, and ended the excursion observing White Storks, while trying to take artistic photos. It was a wonderful half-day of bird watching and bird photography on the shores of Lake Neuchâtel.
