Morning birding along Lake Geneva / Private Day Trip November 2018
I meet our participant in front of the Hôtel des Bergues on this beautiful November morning. For her first visit to Geneva and even to Switzerland, she wanted to see the city from a different angle and therefore booked our birding excursion in the harbor of Geneva in private.
Autumn is a very favorable season for birdwatching in Geneva because this is the season of post-nuptial migration and the arrival of the first wintering species such as the Tufted Duck.
The harbor of Geneva is an exceptional birding hotspot.
We walked along the North shore on the Pâquis side for 2 beautiful hours and had great observations: 18 species at Ile Rousseau and 14 species near the Pâquis pier. A great diversity! Beyond the common species like the Mute Swan or the Eurasian Coot, we had the chance to make two exceptional observations:
On the one hand we found a hybrid duck Mallard x Red-crested Pochard!
And on the other hand, we were lucky enough to observe the Ring-necked Duck, an American species that arrived on Lake Geneva a few days earlier. To see this species there is quite extraordinary, and nobody really knows at the moment how it got there. The fact remains that this handsome male spends his time at the Port des Pâquis, in the middle of Tufted Ducks. Unbelievable!
Here are some additional images of these beautiful moments spent with the birds of Lake Geneva.
If you live in the area or if you are visiting Geneva for a few days, this short excursion is really an ideal activity for everyone. This walk allows you to discover the birds of Lake Geneva in a pleasant and easy setting. Whether you are a novice or an experienced birder, whether you are a wildlife photographer or not, everyone loves it. And it will be a great pleasure for me to share this moment with you.
