Itinerary of our wildlife tour in Portugal
Meeting place : Mértola
Meet in Mértola, one of the most beautiful towns of Portugal. If you are staying in Mértola, we can come meet you at your accommodation. We will then start to explore the town, taking our time and walking slowly to enjoy the great birdlife of Mértola. Our first stop will be the Castle of Mértola, where birds use the walls and holes of the castle to nest. After that we will walk towards the Lesser Kestrel colony (only in spring and summer as this species is migratory). Finally, we will walk up to reach a fantastic viewpoint where we will station for a while to enjoy the view and the birds! From there, we can potentially spot several species of raptors. All in all, this birding walk in Mértola is a great way to do some urban birding, understanding how birds take advantage of towns and how humans and birds can coexist harmoniously.
